At Strathmore, a Night of Opera's Rising Stars
"The great duet known as 'Mira, o Norma' from the second act of Vincenzo Bellini's Norma, was predented in full, including the music just before and after the billboardednumber. Mezzo-soprano E. Bishop and Soprano Paoletta Marrocu complemented each other marvelously in this celebrated and implausible combination of creamy melody and fierce psychological urgency."

Lady Macbeth (Macbeth)
"But it is soprano Paoletta Marrocu who goes to the head of the class in this production. Her steely Lady Macbeth is loaded with ruthlessness and authority, and is clearly the driver for Macbeth's nefarious deeds. Her rich, wide-ranging, well-supported, and supple instrument dominates when she is on stage, and easily cuts through Verdi's Wagnerian orchestral forces. She projected her high notes without strain, and dominated even in those passages where Lady Macbeth competes with the full chorus. The Washington Times Paoletta Marrocu was a persuasive Lady Macbeth, whether goading a hesitant spouse or sleepwalking with a heavy, guilty heart. The soprano shaped words tellingly and, except for strain in the upper reaches, sang with an effective intensity. tim.smith@baltsun.com - bultimoresun.com "Marrocu's voice is rather like a clarinet, fleet in motion yet capable of piercing energy. She was an exciting presence in ensembles..." Wahington Post By Philip Kennicott Paoletta Marrocu as Lady Macbeth Photo © Karin Cooper |

Leonora (Il Trovatore)
NCTimes.com Big voices lift San Diego Opera's dark 'Il Trovatore' "Il Trovatore" cast features singers with exceptional vocal power, combined with nuance, flexibility and finesse. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the San Diego Opera premiere of soprano Paoletta Marrocu as the doomed heroine Leonora. She's a fine actress, and her rendering of the heartbreaking third-act aria "D'amor sull'ali rosee," from its roof-raising high notes to its almost-whispered passages, is the highlight of the evening. …general director Ian Campbell has assembled is as good as anything you'll find on a record, particularly singers Marrocu and Cornetti, who are truly world-class.” By: PAM KRAGEN - Staff Writer Paoletta Marrocu as Leonora Photo © Ken Howard |

Turandot
"The voice is ample and focused and filled this house with ease. The top notes are steady, the phrasing exemplary, her attack thrilling, and she looks gorgeous too. Marrocu has personal and vocal charisma, and dominates any stage upon wich she appears. The grain of the voice is womanlier then we often hear; Marrocu is a welcome antidote to some of the screechers we currently endure in this role." IMaddalena (Andrea Chenier)
talian soprano Paoletta Marrocu debuts "her luminous sound" (Opera News, 2004)) as the lovely aristocrat Maddalena de Coigny. The voice was robust and the dramatic sensibility behind it was magnetic. Ditto for Paoletta Marrocu as Maddalena de Coigny. Andante Paoletta Marrocu as Maddalena (Andrea Chénier) |

Minnie (La fanciulla del West)
"Marrocu's voice suited the role ideally: she had it all, from bottom to top, and made the music an integral part of her characterization." Opera News (jochen Breiholz) "Paoletta Marrocu's voice , with its solid middle section and thrilling attack at the top, is ideal for Minnie ...". Opera (Barry Emslie) The singing was first-rate, with Paoletta Marrocu's dramatic Minnie a clear winner. Her intense voice, extending from wonderful tender moments to effective outbursts, has some minor problems with exposed notes, but she knows to convince with her enormous stage presence. Lady Macbeth
"...her incredible stage presence, her splendid and convincing acting skills that are also reflected in her voice in the crucial moments. As soon as the singer enters the stage, she takes over the leading role. Her scenes are doubtlessly to be ranked among the highlights of the evening." Margherita (Mefistofele)
Paoletta Marrocu proved to be the ideal Margherita, as if she had discovered the ultimate outlet for her dramatic and vocal abilities. On stage, the fullness of her voice truly succeeded in communicating the initial innocence of the virgin in contrast with the guilt and anxiety of the sinner. Corriere degli spettacoli |
